Weekly Update 10/1/17

posted Sep 30, 2017, 10:12 AM by Ryan Masciotra
Good evening, Corwin International families.  This is Mrs. Masciotra with your weekly update.

Penny Wars continues!  This week, October 2nd through October 6th, pennies will be collected during advisory to increase the class goal, while silver coins can be used to count against another classes goal. The class who has the most pennies remaining in each grade will win a prize.  All proceed will go towards furniture and books for the Media Center.

On Monday, Mrs. Galli and Mrs. Sweckard’s classes are going to Beulah.

On Tuesday, Ms. Barger and Mr. Hutchins’ classes are going to Beulah.  There will be a meeting for students interested in or already registered to travel to Washington DC on Tuesday, October 3rd at 5 pm in room 113. We will discuss the upcoming opportunities for fund raising, any other ideas for fundraising and answer questions for parents or students who are interested in traveling but have not signed up yet.  Our monthly PTO meeting will also be held on Tuesday at 6pm.

On Wednesday, all 6th grade students will be given the Cognitive Abilities Test. This test is to help identify students who may qualify for the Gifted and Talented program. A letter will be sent home with your student on Monday giving you more information.

On Thursday, October 7th, we will be hosting an induction ceremony for 8th graders joining National Junior Honor Society.

Friday, October 6th is our September student recognition breakfast and dollar jeans day.

On Saturday, October 7th, we would like to invite all families to join us at the Community Peace Summit. The event will run from 10am until 1pm at the Southwest Motors Event Center, Colorado State Fair grounds. Look to our Facebook page for more information. We hope to see you there!

As the weather begins to change we want to remind everyone to dress appropriately for the cooler temperatures and also remind about our uniform policy. Students are to be in dress pants or skirts. If skirts or dresses are worn, girls must wear tights underneath. Sweaters may be worn but they must be black or blue and have the school crest. Sweatshirts, pullovers, Joggers, Skinny/tight jeans are not part of the CIMS dress code. Boots may be worn as long as the uniform pants are over them.

Finally, Steel City Theater Company begins their presentation of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” on Friday, October 6th at 7:30. This show will play for two weeks with both evening and matinee performances. Steel City is offering a discount to CIMS students of $3.00. This brings the cost of student tickets to $5.00 per student. Just mention you are a CIMS student when contacting the box office to purchase your tickets. Let’s get out and support our local artists!

That concludes our announcements.  Have a great week.
