CIMS Weekly Update, 9/29/19

Good evening, Corwin International families.  This is Mrs. Masciotra with the weekly update.

Like previous weeks this quarter, we have another busy one coming up.

On Monday, select Advisory classes will be taking part in a mock reunification drill.  We will be practicing in case of a situation that requires us to reunite students and families.  Also on Monday, there is a cross country meet at Hollydot at 4pm, JV volleyball plays at Pleasantview and varsity plays at CIMS at 4:45pm, and softball plays at Runyon at 5pm.  A reminder that there will be no comic club on Monday, September 30. We will resume class the following Monday.

On Tuesday, annual vision and hearing screening will be taking place for all 5th and 7th graders.  The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment will be collecting height and weight data during vision and hearing screenings for grades 4th, 5th, and 7th in the school this year as well.  All heights and weights will be measured in a confidential setting and remain confidential.  Information will not be given to individual students or school staff.  Your child’s height and weight will be added to the measurements we collect for all students.  The name of your child will not be in any report or linked to the information that is collected.  The data will be used to drive public health education in Pueblo County.  If you do not want your child weighed and measured, please complete the opt out form available in the front office by Monday.  Also on Tuesday, all 6th graders will begin their new arts rotation for the next six weeks.  Schedules will be updated in Infinite Campus.

On Wednesday, InterACT club meets at 4pm, JV volleyball plays at Swallows and Varsity plays at CIMS at 4:45pm.  District Accountability is at 5:30pm at the Administration Building.

On Thursday, we will host our September Student of the Month breakfast at 7:30am in the Media Center, and it is our October $1 jeans day.  All proceeds will support the CIMS InterACT club and their support of Rotary’s water well project in Nicaragua.  Cross country runs at Risley at 5pm and softball plays at Runyon at 5pm.

We'd like to wish football good luck as they participate in the next round of playoffs this weekend.  Soccer plays at 1pm at Langoni Field.

There is a great opportunity for our 8th grade students to take the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test).  This is the college entrance exam given to all High School Juniors in our community.  Test date is Dec. 7th and application deadline is Oct. 25.  There is also a fee for this test.   If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Mrs. Bratina at 549-7406.

Finally, a reminder to all middle school families.  Our new math curriculum includes a vital independent practice component in the online program, Mathia.  All middle school students can access Mathia through their district login at home and should be working on it regularly to maintain practice in skills that are being taught in class.

That completes out announcements.  Have a great evening.
