CIMS Weekly Update, 10/7/18

posted Oct 7, 2018, 8:56 AM by Ryan Masciotra

Good evening, Corwin International families.  This is Mrs. Masciotra with the weekly update.

On Monday, we will host our student of the month breakfast for students recognized in September for being thinkers.  Also on Monday, we will hold our monthly jeans day for $1. For maintaining good attendance, students and staff can wear shirts with animated characters as well.

As the temperatures drop and the season changes, we’d like to remind families and students that jackets and hoodies are not permitted in classrooms.  Please dress appropriately for the cooler weather.

Middle school boys basketball begins on October 22nd.  Any boy interested in trying out must have an active physical on file prior to that date.

Fall conferences are coming.  They will be held on Friday, October 26th.  Communication will come directly with elementary teachers for students in grades 4 and 5.  For middle school students, please watch for an email this week with links to sign up for a time.  The links will also be posted on our website and on our Facebook page.

We have several other information pieces for this week:

For the month of October, we will continue collecting socks for the Pueblo Charter Lions Club.  Pueblo City Schools is also sponsoring a coat drive for the month of October. Bring in a gently used coat and receive parent volunteer credit. See parent booker for details. All families are invited to attend the Harvest of Families Extravaganza on November 3rd at Central High School. If your family is in need of coats, you will be able to choose coats at this event.

Our 8th grade students have the opportunity to take the SAT this year. The test date is December 1st and the online registration deadline is October 19th. If you would like your 8th grade student to take the SAT this year, please contact Mrs. Bratina for more information.

We are now in our 2nd week of the Penny Wars ! Each class will be competing with other classes in their grades to see who can collect the most coins and win a prize! All proceeds will go toward purchasing new books for the CIMS Media Center!

The Fall Scholastic Book Fair is on its way! And to get us started we have the online fair which will be open for purchases starting October 12th until November 1st. All books ordered ship free to the school at the end of the fair and the proceeds benefit the onsite book fair. Visit Scholastic.com/Bookfairs to find our fair!

If you are interested in managing a team for Destination Imagination and have experience, please contact Mrs. Bratina for more information. This is a great way participate in an extracurricular activity with your student and earn parent volunteer hours for the school year. First training is October 13th at PCC from 8 to noon.

Finally, save the date for Friday, October 26th.  CIMS PTO will be hosting the CIMSTober fest - featuring a haunted house, face painting, food, activities and more!

That concludes our announcements.  Have a great evening.
