Weekly Update 8/17/14

This week will be our first full week of school.  School will start at 8a.m. and end at 3p.m. Monday through Thursday and release at 1:30pm on Friday.    Students have done a great job lining up in the court yard before school.  Parents please keep in mind that the school parking lot on our East end is not suitable for use as a drop off and pick up area.   We ask that parents do not pull into our parking lot for dropping off or picking up.   Also, keep in mind that we encourage parents to meet our 4th graders in the front grassy area of the school.  This is where 4th graders exit each day.   We all need to keep our eyes open and watch for our youngest as they are learning to navigate their new school.

Tuesday is our first PTO meeting of the year.  We hope to see many parents in attendance.  This meeting will begin at 6:30p.m.   We will be mixing and getting to know one another.  We will answer questions and talk about the events for the year.  There will also be a principal’s update before the closure of the meeting.

An invitation to all dads, granddads, uncles, and step-dads of great students. This is your chance to have a night out with your student and to learn about our great Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program. Please join us for a pizza party on Thursday, August 21st from 6 until 7:30 in the school cafeteria. Please let us know if you are coming by filling out the blue flyer that was sent home and returning it to your child's teacher. See you on Thursday night.

There will be a meeting for all interested 5th – 8th grade cross country runners on Thursday August 21st from 3:20 to 3:45.  Although 5th grade students cannot compete, they can join the team and attend practices as 5th graders.    Cross country practice will begin on Monday August 25th. All participants will need to have their current physical form on file in the office in order to practice.

HOSTS stands for- Help One Student To Succeed.  HOSTS is an academic mentorship program that all parents are encouraged to participate in throughout the year.  CIMS will hold a welcome to mentorship meeting on Thursday August 28th @ 6p.m.  Please plan to attend.  This is one of the easiest ways to volunteer at CIMS.  HOSTS allows meaningful volunteerism and will give you skills to support your own child as well!

CIMS has two travel club excursions this year.  Qualifying students in 6th grade will have the opportunity to travel to Washington DC, and 8th grade students will have the opportunity to travel to Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid in Spring 2015.  The deadlines for singing up are coming up soon.  If you have not signed up, and need information on sign up, please plan to attend the last recruitment meeting of the year on Tuesday August 26th at 6 p.m. in the media center.

Parent Booker is ready for your registration.  We have support in our office from 10 a.m. until 3:30 daily.  All parents who are not yet signed up, should be signed up through Parent Booker as soon as possible.
