Greetings Corwin International Families, this is Mrs. Shue, and here is your weekly update!
Good evening everyone! We at Corwin hope that everyone has had a restful and peaceful Thanksgiving break! We are looking forward to seeing everyone back on time and ready for learning in the morning.
We want to remind parents that our school wide science fair will be held this Saturday. Times are varying based on your child’s grade level, so please check with your child as to the exact time he or she should arrive. (5th graders do not do science fair due to exhibition.) Please remember that we will not have anyone manning the office door, but the exterior door near the main office will be open as will the door near the gym near on Lakeview. So the buzzer will not be manned n Saturday. Please remember to mind the street and traffic signs, including no parking zones on the street near the school. These are monitored on the weekends as well. However, careful parking in the drop off loop is allowed on weekends and the teacher parking lot is open for event parking as well. Please help us respect our neighbors by watching neighborhood properties and keeping driveways clear.
Any 7th or 8th graders’ parent whose child is planning on taking the ACT and is taking the Saturday morning ACT prep class, should have the student registered by 9 a.m. Saturday morning. We will take one hour this Saturday prior to the science fair to organize our materials and get some basic house keeping items ready for the reminder of the classes. It is important that all students who plan to take classes be at this first one class. If Corwin students have high school siblings who would like to take this class, it is open to students from any High School as well. Please email our counselor for details. Please be on time for this first class, as we need to start right at 9a.m. In addition, we need a parent volunteer to help with registrations as well.
On Thursday, before the break we held a school wide spirit assembly. This included clapping the 4th grade students in and out of the gym as they entered and departed. This is our way of welcoming them to their first school wide assembly. We also reminded students who are picked up by car to be thoughtful about our local neighbors and their property. Please remind students who wait outside after school to only stand on sidewalks. If a parent will be late they should stay on the school side of the street for safety and consideration. In addition, we have had several students cross back and forth across the street after school. This is dangerous, especially after the crossing guards leave and as weather gets colder we will really need to be thoughtful of safety.
I want to thank parents who have been letting us know if they cannot make crossing duty and also to those who have been so faithful to show up even in the colder weather. I hope everyone in our Mighty Corwin Community will wish these amazing volunteers well. Give them a wave, and a thank you as you pass by!
Finally, our PTO meeting is in need of your support! We will be planning the most important fundraiser of the year on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and we need your help. This Basketball Tournament fundraiser is the primary annual fundraiser for our PTO and we need to see your wonderful bright and amazing parent faces on Wednesday at 7pm. We need about 200 people or so to make this fundraiser work. This is how we fund items like the new Chromebooks that PTO purchased for around $10K. In addition, we will be making a special announcement to the Corwin Community on Wednesday night and the only place you will hear it will be at the PTO meeting! So for those of you who want to be the first to know….you will hear it there first. We hope to see you at the PTO meeting on Wednesday at 7p.m.
