Weekly Update: 3/26/17

Good evening. This is Corwin International Magnet School with your weekly announcements:

Intersession begins March 27th through March 31st.  All classes that made are full.

There is no school April 3rd. It is a teacher work day.

The National Academic League Awards Banquet will be held April 4, 2017 at the South High School cafeteria beginning at 5:00pm. National Academic League team members will be given a ticket for admittance.  Parents and family members may purchase a ticket for $10.00 each.  Tickets will not be sold at the door.  Please purchase all tickets from your National Academic League coach, Paul Ripple.

Update 3/16/17

CIMS has participated in several emergency response situations this week. Today, we participated in a lockdown drill with district offices and the Pueblo Police Department. Students and staff did a great job. We also has two secure perimeters yesterday due to police activity in the area. Thank you for your cooperation.

Good evening.  This is Corwin International Magnet School with your weekly announcements:

1.  There is no school for students on Monday, March 13th due to Parent/Teacher Conferences.   Elementary conferences will be scheduled by teachers. Middle school students are alphabetical to avoid long lines but please come when you can.  All 8th grade students should plan to be at CIMS at 1:30pm on conference day for high school scheduling.  More information can be found on Facebook and the CIMS website.

2.  Parents of 8th grade students:  Please plan to attend, with your student, our High School Scheduling event.  This will take place on Monday, March 13th.  The event begins at 1:30pm and will end at 3:30pm.  Please be on time.    The counselors from the four high schools will be here to explain class options and schedule your student for their 9th grade year.  If you are unable to attend you will need to make an appointment with your student’s high school to complete their scheduling.

3.  Parents of 8th grade students: If you have not already completed your School of Choice application for which high school your student will attend, it is not too late.  The link on the district web site is now titled School Choice Wait List.  You are still able to request the high school of your choice.  Please complete this application if you have not already done so.

4.  Stop by the uniform sale between 8:00am and 7:00pm tomorrow during your conference.  Shirts will be $2.00 and bottoms $3.00.  We do have some new plaid items that will be priced between $5 and $10. There are also a few Spirit shirts, CIMS water bottles and CIMS umbrellas available.  Also, PTO will be collecting Box Tops at the Uniform Sale.  Please look for the bright pink box and remember to write your student's name and teacher on the baggie for a chance to win.

5.  Parents of 6th grade students are invited to pick up their student's results of the Cognitive Abilities Test that was administered to all 6th grade students in February.  The result sheets will be available at the sign in table during conference on Monday March 13th.

6.  The Scholastic Book Fair will be open all day during conferences.

7.  All parents are invited to attend the parent training of the No Bully program scheduled on March 16th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.  Your participation in this event is crucial to the success of this program.  Thank you so much for your support.

8.  There will be a Travel club meeting on Tuesday, March 14th, for NEW 5th grade students and parents interested in traveling to Washington DC in June of 2018. Students received packets containing travel information that will be covered at the meeting. Please come and have questions answered. The meeting starts promptly at 5:30pm in Mrs. Hutchins Drama room, 113. Look forward to seeing you there.

9.  Do you like to cook or craft?  Do you like to make things?  Do you want to learn about drama or history through Hollywood?  Then sign up for spring intersession!  Registrations are due March 15th and can be picked up in the main office.

10.  Track begins March 21st, the week of intersession. All paperwork must be turned in prior to practice. Athletes must have 5 practices prior to participating in their first meet. Track practice will be held from 2:00pm to 3:00pm during the week of Intercession and from 3:30pm to 4:30pm,  Monday through Friday during regular school days. Please turn in your track paperwork ASAP. There will be a short track meeting in the auditorium on Tuesday immediately after school. We will discuss expectations, collect forms, and answer questions regarding track. Please plan to attend this short meeting. Meeting will be over by 3:45pm.

Good evening.  This is Corwin International Magnet School with your weekly announcements:

1. The Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be here soon!

Online Fair: Will be open for purchases starting Monday, March 6th
until Sunday, March 26th.

Onsite Fair: Will be open for purchases in the media center starting Monday, March 6th
until Thursday, March 16th.

Conferences: The Scholastic Book Fair will be open all day during
conferences.

We hope to see you there.

2.  CIMS is beginning to roll out the new Bullying Prevention Program called No Bully and we need your help. There are several ways to help and get volunteer hours;  
  • One is to attend the CIMS visioning meeting scheduled right before the PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 7th.  The visioning section will take place from 5:30pm until 6:00pm followed by the PTO meeting from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.  It will be great if you stay for both sections but it is not required.  You will be able to claim parent volunteer time for attending one or both activities. 
  • Another opportunity involved with this initiative is to take the survey located on the CIMS website titled “ Parent Perception Survey“.  The information gathered from both of these activities will help guide the development of the new No Bully program. 
  • Please also plan to attend the parent training portion of the No Bully program scheduled on March 16th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.  
Your participation in these events is crucial to the success of this program.  Thank you so much for your support.  

3.  Please join this month's PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 7th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  You will receive one hour of volunteer time for attending and it is a great way to find out what is happening in our school.

4.  On Wednesday, March 8th, PTO will be joining with Skate City to helping raise money for our school. Join us from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Skate City for our School's Skate Night. Admission is $5.00 and traditional skate rental is $2.50. Hope to see you there and don't forget to get a ticket that evening for a chance to win door prizes.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  Attention PYP parents: PYP class pictures will be taken on Tuesday, February 28th.  Students should wear their normal Tuesday uniform. If you are planning to order pictures, please make sure your student brings the order form with them on Tuesday.

2.  Due to the PYP plays this week, MYP drama club will be cancelled on both Tuesday and Thursday. Only 4th graders are to come on Wednesday. All drama club students need to practice their lines!!!

3.  4th and 5th grade parents: Please make sure your student has turned in their field trip forms for the rehearsal walk through/dress rehearsal this week. All students are required to participate, every student has a part. 

4.  Pre-order forms for tickets to the 4th and 5th grade plays are being taken through Monday. There will be a minimal amount of tickets available at the door. Pre-orders will go home with students on Monday. Please remind your students to give you their tickets when they get home! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hutchins.

5.  Parents needing volunteer hours:  Mrs. Hutchins needs 2 parents per grade, 4th and 5th, to take tickets for the performances at the door. Please use SignUp.

6.  CIMS is starting a photography club. It is open to all students. We will be learning about composition, lighting, and various other things that make a good photograph. If you are interested, we will be having a short informational meeting on Thursday,  March 2nd, right after school with Mr. Wermers in his classroom, room number 118. After that, we will be meeting on the first and third Thursday of each month from 3:15pm to 4:00pm. Once again, this will be open to all CIMS students. The only thing the students need is the ability to take a digital picture, it can be with a phone or a simple digital camera. Please contact Mr. Wermers for more information.

7.  Parents of 8th grade students - please remember to turn in your student's high school choice form by the end of the week.

8.  The PTO Exco Team would like to thank everyone that helped with Valentine Day gram sales, putting the grams together and helping with the MYP dance.  We would not do these events without your support.

9.  Attention PYP families:  All PYP students are invited to attend the Ice Cream Social on Friday, March 3rd, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.  The event will be held in the school cafeteria and the cost of this event is $3.  Come make an ice cream sundae and play games.  This is a PTO sponsored event.

Reminder: 2/13/17

Good evening. This is Corwin International Magnet School with a quick reminder:

1. Talent show rehearsals will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, this week from 3:30PM to 5:30 PM in the CIMS auditorium.

2. Talent show Tickets will be sold during lunches: on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. They are $2 each ticket.

3. The Talent show is at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 16th.  Concessions will be sold.

4.  This is also a final reminder regarding letters of intent for the 2017...2018 school year.  We still have some students who have not returned their yellow letters of intent for next school year.  We need a form returned from every student.  It is the only way to secure your child's enrollment at CIMS for next year.  Please check with your child to be sure that his/her form has been signed and returned.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. Save the Date!  The Spring Scholastic Book Fair is on its way! The Online Fair will run from Monday, March 6th, until Sunday, March 26th. The Onsite Book Fair will open for business Monday, March 6th as well, and will run until Thursday, March 16th. The Book Fair will be open during conferences. 2. A reminder to parents of 6th grade students: A letter was sent home last week notifying you that all of our 6th grade students will be participating in the Cognitive Abilities Test. This test is to help identify students who may qualify for the designation of Gifted and Talented. This test will be administered on Tuesday, February 14th, beginning at 8am.  Please be sure your student is on time!

3. There will be no school for students on Friday, 2/17.  It is a district wide professional development day for all staff.

4. There will be no school on Monday, 2/20, due to the Presidents' Day holiday.
