Weekly Update: 6/4/17

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  Students! Join us Monday, June 5th, for Loco Locks and Crazy Socks (that's crazy hair and sock day)!  This is a free event for all students. Please be sure you are still in formal uniform.

2.  There will be an after school rehearsal for students performing Alice@Wonderland on Monday, June 5th from 3:30 to 5 in the auditorium. All cast must attend.

3.  Congratulations to our 5th graders who presented Exhibition projects on Thursday.  Our students reached out to the community in a variety of ways and demonstrated the Power of One.  Some of our students made donations to the Salvation Army, the Soup Kitchen and Christ Life Ministry while they learned about the reality of homelessness.  Many of our groups implemented plans to help animals and educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.  Other groups want us all to take better care of our environment and have organized campus cleanups and will be planting trees in our loop area this fall. Our Mission Mentor group is working to ease the transition for incoming 4th graders. These are just a few examples of the wonderful action pieces taking place in our community.  Thank you 5th graders for all of your hard work and for showing us the Power of One!

4.  This week we will have several performances for Drama. 8th grade drama students will perform on Monday for the PYP students at 9:00am and for the MYP students at 12:30pm.  All 8th grade drama students are expected to attend. On Tuesday, June 6th, at 9:00am, 6th grade Blue day will present, "Alice @Wonderland" for the MYP students. On Wednesday, June 7th, the 6th grade White day drama class will perform, "An American Tale" at 12:30pm in the auditorium. All students from these classes are expected to be present. Limited space is available for parents.

5.  Tuesday, June 6th, is PYP Field Day. Students should dress in appropriate attire for participation in physical activities.  Tuesday, June 6th, is also Yearbook signing day.  Parents, if your student didn't order a yearbook in advance, they may still have an opportunity. Extra yearbooks will be for sale for $30.00 the day of yearbook signing, June 6th. 8th grade students will be given the opportunity to purchase extra yearbooks first, then 7th, 6th, 5th, and 4th. 

6.  Wednesday, June 7th is MYP Field Day.  Students should dress in appropriate attire for participation in physical activities.  Wednesday, June 7th, is also the 8th grade Continuum and Dance beginning at 6:00pm at East High School.

7.  Thursday, June 8th, is the final Awards Assembly for grades 4-7: 4th grade is at 8:00am, 6th grade is at 8:45am, 7th grade is at 9:30am, and 5th grade is at 10:15am.

8.  We will be having a Taffy's Sucker Sale here at the school until the end of the year or we run out!  They will be sold after school at the School Store as well as at both the East and West doors heading out to the buses. Each sucker will cost $1.00. All proceeds will benefit the School Store.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  Parents, if your student didn't order a yearbook in advance, they may still have an opportunity. Extra yearbooks will be for sale for $30.00 the day of yearbook signing, June 6th. 8th grade students will be given the opportunity to purchase extra yearbooks first, then 7th, 6th, 5th, and 4th. 

2.  Additionally, we are in need of parent volunteers for a variety of end of year activities.  Please visit our website and click on the parent volunteer tab to see opportunities. 

3.  Attention 8th grade students who are eligible for the trip to Elitch's on June 1st, Tuesday, May 30th, is the last day to submit your permission form and payment of $30.  Turn in your payment and permission form to your Advisory teacher.

4.  Parents and students: students will be participating in various health related activities on Wednesday, May 31st, for World Health Day. They will have the choice to wear Friday casual uniform or their CIMS gym clothes on this day.

5.  Please join us on Thursday, June 1st, as our 5th graders present Exhibition at Corwin International.  The students have been exploring the idea of The Power of One.  By proposing solutions to problems, students will demonstrate how they can make a positive impact on their community.   The classrooms of Mr. Hutchins and Mr. Noble will present from 8:30 to 9:15 AM.  The classrooms of Mrs. Sweckard and Mrs. Galli will present from 9:25 to 10:10 AM.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  This week will be the last week for Drama Clubs. We will have an end of year party on Wednesday for PYP Drama Club and Thursday for MYP Drama Club. Please bring snacks. Mrs. Hutchins will supply the rootbeer floats. 

2.  Skate City is offering a Summer Club Card for this summer.  Corwin students can buy a card for only $5 each and skate all summer for $2.00 per public matinee session.  Skate Rental is an extra $2.00.  Please pick up a flyer across from the office and take the flyer and money to Skate City by May 31st.

3.  CIMS PTO is excited to announce that our families have earned $644.00 from Box Tops this year.  This is a great way to raise money for our school.  Please remember to send in your Box Tops this week for the last drawing of the school year.  Remember to collect your Box Tops this summer!

4.  There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, May 25th, at 3:15 p.m. in the auditorium with coaches Brian Mata and Kevin Ortiz. It is for any 6th and 7th graders interested in playing football next season. 

5.  Madison Tatinski is holding the 3rd Annual Shoe Drive to benefit children in need during the month of May.  Clean out your closets and bring your new or gently used shoes of all sizes to the collection boxes by the office and media center.  Thank you for helping Madison's Mission one pair at a time!

Don't forget there is an early release tomorrow, May 19th, for all students grades 4 through 8. All students will be released at 12:00pm. Transportation services are aware of this and have modified their schedules to accommodate all bus routes for tomorrow.  

8th grade students, don't forget to wear your shirt for pictures for the Continuum.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  Hey CIMS Families!  Don't forget about our final skate night of the school year at Skate City on Monday, May 15th, from 6-8pm. Prizes will be awarded.  

2.  Save the Date!  Please join us on Thursday, June 1st, as our 5th graders present Exhibition at Corwin International.  The students have been exploring the idea of The Power of One.  By proposing solutions to problems, students will demonstrate how they can make a positive impact on their community.   The classrooms of Mr. Hutchins and Mr. Noble will present from 8:30 to 9:15 AM.  The classrooms of Mrs. Sweckard and Mrs. Galli will present from 9:25 to 10:10 AM.

3.  Parents, if you have completed volunteering and haven't logged your hours, remember to enter your parent volunteer hours in the form located on our website.  We will be sending an update of hours home at the end of next week.

4.  Additionally, our lost and found is full of items.  We will be putting items out at the end of this week, so please come and a take a look if you have any missing items.

5.  The PYP Instrumental Informances will take place this week during 6th hour from 2:20pm-3:10pm in room 125.

6.   CIMS is partnering with the American Cancer Society to help raise awareness and find a cure for cancer.  During the month of May students will be learning about different cancers. Key Club members are selling Luminary bags which are decorated with the names of loved ones who have fought or are fighting various cancers. The bags cost $5 and will line the path of the relay event in June.  If you would like to purchase a luminaria in honor of someone or make a tax-deductible donation, please look for the Corwin International Magnet School  team on the Relay website which is "pueblorelay.org" or access the order form on the CIMS website home page under recent files or use the resource tab.  Contact Mrs. Richards with questions or for more information.

7. Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  CIMS PTO will be recognizing the teachers this coming week for Teacher Appreciation Week! We invite you to take a moment too and say thank you to our wonderful teachers!

2.  Are you looking for a way to be more involved at CIMS next school year? The PTO will be holding it's annual Executive Committee elections at the PTO meeting this Tuesday, May 2nd, at 6:00pm. Nomination forms are available on the PTO website and will also be available at the meeting. This is a fun and easy way to get volunteer hours in!  

3.  Parents of 4th - 7th graders, we are beginning to plan for next school year.  On Friday, your child received an orange order form for the summer reading book for the upcoming school year.  If you would like to order a copy of the summer reading title for your child, please complete the order form and send it with your payment by Friday, May 5th.  Books will be delivered to students with their packets for next school year at the end of May.

4.  Any 8th grade parent who is interested in volunteering for this year's 8th Grade Continuum/Dance, there will be a meeting after school on Thursday, May 4th.  If you are unable to make the meeting but are still interested in helping, please e-mail jerri.garcia@pueblocityschools.us.

1.  CIMS Annual World Health Day is coming in May!  Do you have expertise or work in a health related field?  Do you need parent volunteer hours?  Help us make our Annual Health Day better than ever! We need volunteers for the following jobs:

  • Presenters for World Health Day on a health related topic
    • 30 minute presentation style or 1 hour informational booth style
  • Planning committee members 
  • Help with setup and tear down
  • And more!

2.  An important message to all parents:  On Monday, all students will be given a letter on bright orange paper.  The letter is asking permission for your student to take a short survey about bullying in our school.  It is crucial that you sign giving permission and return the letter back to school on Tuesday and no later than Wednesday.  We need a certain percentage returned in order to conduct the survey which is scheduled for Thursday.  The information gathered from the survey is vital to the success of our No Bully program.

3.  As parents, we are asking that you take the same survey.  The link to this survey is on the Corwin web page and will be open only through Thursday morning.  The code for PYP parents is 854596.  The code for MYP parents is 965514.  Thank you so much for your help as together we begin our journey on supporting a positive culture at CIMS. Take a look at our No Bully tab on the CIMS website!  We will be updating it as we move through the process.

4.  Key Club is a service club open to all Corwin students, grades 4-8, who want to plan and/or participate in events that help others in our community. 
There will be a planning meeting on Thursday, April 27th, after school in the media center until 4:15pm. Those who are interested should plan to attend the meeting and/or see Mrs. Richards for more information. 

5.  A special thank you to Lowe's and Home Depot for donating packets of seeds for all of our students to plant on Earth Day last Friday!

6.  Thank you students and parents for the great attendance we had during PARCC!  It was close but in the end, 5th grade had the highest attendance rate throughout the testing window!  Congratulations 5th grade students!  We appreciate all students and staff for demonstrating hard work and effort.  Thank you also to parents who brought in snacks for students during the PARCC window.

2.  Parents of 8th grade students planning to attend Central High School next year:  Central is inviting students to attend a special presentation by Jeff Valdez on Friday, April 21st.  Plan to have your student arrive at Central at 8:45am and pick up your student at 10:00am from Central.  You will need to transport your student and call into the CIMS office to excuse them for that part of the day.

3.  Report cards and updated parent volunteer hour letters went home with students on Friday.

4.  This is our last week of PARCC testing!  We are excited to demonstrate the academic accomplishments of our students and staff! Please help us by ensuring that your students arrive to school each day on time, are well rested, and eat a good breakfast.  

5.  Students, the grade level with the highest attendance percentage during PARCC will receive a special prize.  Who will it be?

Good evening.  This is Corwin International Magnet School with your weekly announcements:

1.  Attention wrestlers: Thursday, April 13th,  we will be having our CIMS wrestling banquet.  It will be held in the Corwin cafeteria from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  It will be a potluck so please bring your favorite dish.  Please text Coach Castro what you are bringing and how many are coming.  During the banquet we will be handing out awards and team pictures.  It will be lots of fun, hope you can make it.
