Weekly Update: 1/22/17

Good evening. This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. The 8th grade play of "The Outsiders" is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th, at 6:30pm in the auditorium.

2. Key Club is a service club which promotes action in and around our community.  All Cyclones, grades 4-8, are invited.  The next meeting will be Thursday, February 2nd from 3:20pm-4:00pm.  Bring your calendars.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Richards.

3. 2nd semester begins on Monday, January 23rd

4. Please be advised that Pueblo City Schools has prepared a survey regarding proposed changes to school instructional calendars. As a school, we feel that maintaining our current extended calendar benefits our students in many ways from better retention to providing opportunities for enrichment and intervention during our intersession times. We value and appreciate your opinions and would love for you to provide your input and/or concerns via the short survey.  Please go to www.pueblocityschools.us or cim.pueblocityschools.us.  The survey link is in the top left hand corner of the webpages and is open until February 3rd.

Weekly Update: 1/16/17

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. PTO will be collecting used uniforms in the orange box by the office until the end of January.  Please drop off your gently used uniforms.  We are planning a uniform sale in March on Parent/Teacher conference day.

2. Please check Signup.com for new volunteer opportunities.  PTO is in need of parents to help put together Valentine Day grams and set-up and work the middle school Valentine Day dance. Please sign up today!

3. Thank you for volunteering to support CIMS.  Just to reminder to continue using SignUp to find upcoming parent volunteer hour opportunities.  New opportunities are available now.  Letters with completed hours up to this point will be sent home with report cards next week.  

4. There is a dress rehearsal for 8th grade blue day drama students on Friday, January 20th, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm in the auditorium for the play, "The Outsiders."  All students must attend. Contact Mrs. Hutchins for more information.

5. The 8th grade play of "The Outsiders" is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th, at 6:30pm in the auditorium at Corwin International Magnet School. All Blue day 8th grade Drama students must attend. 

6. The Basketball and Wrestling season will begin this week, Mrs. Hutchins needs students and parents of student travelers to assist with the concession stand for home meets. Please contact Mrs. Hutchins to sign up. 

7. Both MYP and PYP Drama Clubs have started back up. Students who are interested in joining the after school clubs are welcome. We  are in the process of casting for our upcoming performances. Come and enjoy the fun. MYP Drama Club is on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:00pm.  PYP Drama Club is on Wednesdays until 4:00pm. Looking forward to some great fun!

8. There will be no school for students on Friday, January 20th, due to a Teacher Work Day.

Weekly Update: 1/8/17

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. The 6th grade Arts Selection form was sent home with students on Thursday, January 5th. The completed form is due to the office by Thursday, January 12th. We recommend that students turn in their signed forms to the office as soon as possible. Questions regarding your selections should be made to individual arts teachers or Mrs. Masciotra.

2. The 8th grade performance originally scheduled for January 10th has been postponed.  More information will be given soon.

3.  Due to the Snow Day, the $1 jeans day has been rescheduled for this Friday, January 13th.

Mid-Week Update: 1/5/17

Good afternoon.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with an important update:

1. Due to weather conditions, ALL after school activities have been cancelled including: Girls Basketball, Wrestling, NAL, and the 6th grade Arts Parent Meeting.  Thank you for your patience and caution during after school dismissal.

2. Attention 6th grade parents: Since the 6th grade Arts meeting has been cancelled, the 6th grade Arts selection form will be sent home with students today.  While completing this form, please keep in mind that the purpose of selecting an arts path through 8th grade is to provide an in-depth experience in either visual or performing arts. Descriptions of each arts option are on the back of the selection form. Forms are due in the main office by January 12th and an electronic version is available on our website for your convenience.

Good evening.  This is Corwin International Magnet School with your weekly announcements:

1.  Students will report back to school on Tuesday, January 3rd.

2.  PTO will be collecting used uniforms in the orange box by the office until the end of January.  Please drop off your gently used uniforms.  We are planning a Uniform Sale in March on Conference Day.

3. The monthly PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, January 3rd,  from 6-7 pm in the media center.  You will receive 1 hour of volunteer time for attending the meeting.  See you there!

4.  Attention 6th grade parents and students: There will be an important meeting for 6th grade parents and students on Thursday, January 5th, from 6-7pm in the auditorium.  We will discuss the process for selecting Arts courses for second semester through your 8th grade year.  Selection forms will be available at the meeting and can be turned in that evening. If you cannot attend, forms will be given out on Friday.

5. Attention all parents: Several community members have asked that you do not park across or block driveways when dropping off and picking up your students.  Thank you.

6.  Friday, January 6th, is $1 jeans day.

Weekly Update: 12/11/16

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1.  On Wednesday, December 14th, PTO will be helping raise money for our school.  Join us from 6-8pm at Skate City for the Holiday Skate Night.
Admission is $5.00 and traditional skate rental is $2.50. Hope to see you there and don't forget to get a ticket that evening for a chance to win door prizes.

2.  This year PTO has set up a Teacher Wish Tree.  Each teacher has items listed on an ornament that they would like to have in their classrooms.  Please come to the school this week to select an ornament, purchase the item listed on the ornament, and give the gift to your teacher. The trees are across from the office by the outside doors.

3.  Remember to be collecting Box Tops this holiday season. Drop of baggies of 10 Box Tops in the pink bin at the school. December's drawing will be on Friday. So far, this school year we have raised $337.10.

4.  The play "Anne Frank and Me" is on Tuesday, December 13th, in the auditorium at 6:30pm. The time has been adjusted to allow students in NAL to compete and participate in the play. 

5.  MYP and PYP Drama clubs are cancelled for this week. We will have a cast party on Thursday after school in the cafeteria for all who participated in the Barnes and Noble event on Saturday. Please bring treats to share. The event will be finished at 4:00pm. 

6.  The deadline for signing up for the December 2017 New York trip to receive the discount is Friday, December 16th. Contact Mrs. Hutchins for more information.

7.  Thank you to all of the students and families who came out to support the Barnes and Noble Book Fair Saturday!!! It was an amazing display of community and made a true impact on the staff at Barnes and Noble who were so impressed with the overwhelming support of our school community! Thank you! 

8.  There will be a $2 Ugly Christmas Sweater/Jeans day on Friday, December 16th. Funds raised will go toward the new school store.

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. The monthly PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, December 6th, from 6-7 pm in the media center.  You will receive 1 hour of volunteer time for attending the meeting.  See you there!

2. We're decking the halls! Please decorate a teacher/staff member's door for the holiday. Pinterest has great ideas for decorating! For more details on supplies, please email corwinpto@gmail.com. You do not need to decorate on the date listed. But, doors need to decorated by Tuesday, December 6th. You will receive two hours for signing up and decorating a door. If it takes longer, please add the additional time manually.  Please sign up for a teacher on Signup.com.

4. This coming Saturday, December 10th, Barnes and Noble is hosting our Travel Club Book Fair. Our Travel club receives 10 percent from any purchases, including cafe purchases on this day at Barnes and Noble.  You must mention Corwin or have the Corwin flyer. Members of the Corwin Travel Club will be gift wrapping for a donation.  Our 4th graders will present their Greek Myths through out the day as well as performances from our PYP and MYP Drama Clubs. Please come and support our school community and help our students travel!

5. The 8th grade play, "Anne Frank and Me" is on Tuesday, Dec 13th at 6:00pm in the Auditorium. Please come and support our drama program! Doors will open at 5:45pm. All drama students need to be at the school by 5:00pm.

Weekly Update: 11/27/16

Good evening.  This is Sulema James, Principal of Corwin International Magnet School, with your weekly announcements:

1. Interested in being part of a Destination Imagination team?  There is still time to join a team.  We have one MYP team and one PYP team.  Each team is allowed 7 students.  Please contact Mrs. Bratina if your student is interested in participating or if you are interested in serving as a team manager.

2. The deadline to register for the January SAT is December 2nd.  If you would still like information, please contact Mrs. Bratina.  For those of you who have already requested information, the eligibility letters will be send home with your student on Monday.
  
3. There will be a Travel Club meeting for drama students interested in going to New York in December of 2017 on Thursday, Dec 1st, in Room 113 at 6pm. Please contact Mrs. Hutchins for further information. 

4. There are many volunteer opportunities available.  Login to SignUp for more information.

5. Parents and students: Unfortunately, we are seeing an increase in uniform violations.  Please refer to the 16-17 Student Handbook, pages 13-15, on the CIMS website for detailed information regarding uniform requirements and infraction consequences.  CIMS' uniform requirements are based on student formal dress and the principle of dress for success. Also, modesty, safety, and consistency of expectations for a learning environment are all promoted by this policy. We will continue to monitor and enforce the student uniform requirements.  Please help us to ensure your student is adhering to our uniform policy. 

6.  This Friday, December 2nd, is $1 Jeans Day.
